And the prize goes to... I have our money, let's spend them!

From email:

Whoooeehey, fellow MMMT'lings!

As you all probably remember we won a prize for the MMMT installation, and I've just recieved the grand total of 5000 shiny norwegian buckaroos! What shall we spend them on? Social stuff, future projects, perhaps split them up or maybe just smoke them? Anybody got any good suggestions and/or want to be part of the decisionmaking here?

I suggest that we revive the blog from the project to have a place to discuss this, if thats okay with everyone...

And, please forward this mail if you notice someone missing from the recipient list.

So, come on, post your dreams, suggestions, wishes and so on...

Concept "freezed"

Hello all,

We have now just a few days left of our project. So from now on we will not have any time for conceptual development. Any new suggestions needs to have code or code sketches attached. As has beens discussed since friday the main focus will be on a concept derived from a combination of previous sketches. Mainly the "Kaleidoscopic forrest", the circular images and vibrating strings. The main focus will now be to finalize a prototype of that (lead by Christer) that can be refined by plenum discourse (all suggestions need to have code). Also the sounds will be an important part of this stage of the installation (lead by Peder/Jørn).

Glorious Success II

It's alive! We managed to hook the pieces together and it works! It is amazingly responsive and it's totally obvious that this can be a great interactive experience.

Now that we have the framework ready, the really fun and rewarding work starts. Creating an interactive piece that is magical, seductive, engaging and inspiring is our goal.

Sounds

Sound is becoming a significant part of the installation, and so we need heaps of them! The way I see it, there should be a "soundset" of at least eight sounds for each Processing sketch.

I registered an account at the Freesound Project for the class. It is a library of user-designed sounds in all sorts of categories. Please log on for a little while and dig around for interesting sounds we can use! The username is ahoide and the password is expro.

Things to consider about the sounds:
  • Is the soundset varied enough not to be boring?
  • Synthetic or natural sounding?
  • How do the sounds affect/compliment eachother?
  • How would they fit the visuals?
  • Do they have a common theme?
  • Would you stand to hear the sounds a hundred times in a row?
We still need ideas for the visual side of things - sounds are a good way to find inspiration.

Production Week!

To recap the first day of the production week: We have divided the project into more specific groups:
  • Hardware, consisting of Jørn, Ingeborg, Fan Fan, Peder, Øyvind. The group works with the physical representation of the installation, the harp, and the physical/hardware input.
  • Software, consisting of Christer, Jegor and Anders. They work with the programming, processing/digital output.
  • Content development, Ingrid, Marianne and Martin. Working with concept and content development, e.g. visual design.
These groups are not self-contained, and will have to be overlapping for the project to evolve.
It is also possible to work on several of the group as the project have different requirements different times.
We will start every morning with a situation rapport from each group, making sure the project evolves in the right direction.
Will those of you not in a group already please sign up!

2: Knut and I also discussed the big difficulties in the project as it is:
  • How are the images captured?
  • What is the content on the home-pages?
  • We need to further specify the visualization.

3: The location of the installation has to be set. As it turns out, the hall-way may not be the best place to be, it will be clattered with student projects all the way. There is also a lot of light there, which makes for a problem for the projections. The hall by the metal-workshop may be reconsidered!
