The final concept

After the discuss,we decide to combine both concepts into one. Here is the process.

..more strings..

Suggestions for how to visualise the out-put from the camera as well as the harp; the thin dashed lines represent the harp strings, while the kaleidoscopic 'flowers' (one on each string) originate from different stills from the camera in-put, and change look/ shape when the string they 'grow on' is interacted with/ played on.

In the following suggestions the various 'flowers' all animate on the same live video in-put, and change upon interaction by either spinning (left) or increasing and then decreasing in size (right).

On the right the strings consist solely of flowers, from tiny to large, and changing size with 'string activity'. This increased number of kaleidoscpes may however prove a bit much to process.

String lines again

Every string instead by the bubble which connect each other but have the dimensional distance.
The bubble will get clear or bigger when people play the string powerful.if no one touch it,the bubble will get smaller and shrinking slightly but still live.

Invitation-inspiration

"Individual" invitation-flyer : could easily be done with professing-kaleideoscopes and our dear friends up at allkopi, if not plotted..
250 g. paper size A4 would be about 6.25 nok (included taxes.) Any feelings anyone?

String lines

Idea-
It vision lines which suppose the real string at corresponding position on the display wall at the begin.when people touch the string, there will show the movement by zoom in the kaleidoscopic image .I think that may help people make a sense to know where they are.

thought about the display

I am thinking if the harp can connect with the pattern maybe looks more nature. when you touch the string there are some sign show on the display wall.It maybe control with different part of the harp, like bass or alt.and the kaleidoscope image can changed depend on the diapason of harp.
Ps: It will be easy to use one camera.if we want to get more angle to cut the photo, maybe try mirror reflect to see if it work :-)

Camera positioning

Just my humble observation, but I'm thinking that what, where and where from we take the photos/videos dictates (to a great extent) what expression we end up with. I see it as a bit problematic to capture images that provide a good platform for stunning visual results. After experimenting with Gunnars hands and our möck-up harp, I've come to realize that the camera probably has to be integrated into the overall design.

My suggestion is that if a camera is top mounted and shoots downwards with a wide angle and aims to capture the hands and perhaps a bit of the body of the user, we'll have a good starting point. Also I suggest that if we mount the strings radially outwards from the image centre (or a corner) we'll have a starting point that allows for easier making of different patterns.

Who? What?

Knut just pointed out to me that we should come up with a good name for this project, and we really should. "Entity" does not say much to anyone I think. Are we making a concrete representation of the whole school called Ulrika, with personal attributes like  swedish accent  and a bad breath? Or is the entity a abstract collective force called  0101 or something mysterious like that. Suggestions please!

Theme sketch: "Soulkeeper"

A thought I had that builds on the Emotions, Childsplay and Ghost theme is that of an entity.

From Google:
"...that which is perceived or known or inferred to have its own distinct existence (living or nonliving)"
(wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn)

Our entity is the school as a whole, including (but not excluding anything): Students, teachers, visitors, janitors, the air, the ventilation, the reputation, the history, anything that are related mentally and/or physically. All this is combined as properties of our almighty entity.

The installations would then play within this theme, maybe as realizations of the entity or something opposing it? I don't know, but I can see a lot of stories emerge in this theme.

The lectures the last few days by Annelise and Stenslie has given some clues to what installations need to be successful. It has to be personal, social, responsive and exciting to engage people.

What if the core asset of our installations is the face?

What if we by the entrance had a materialization of the entity that people can approach. And by connecting to the entity they will (or can) donate their soul. The soul, in the form of your face, is then used, misused or manipulated in some form in our installations. The face is such a strong image that if you see your face in an installation you got to be engaged. If together with the face we could get your name and maybe a soundbite, we could use that in a lot of different types of installations. It could be sound, light installations. It could be games. What about moods?

Context: Make it work for us, not against us.

Since we are going to place our installation(s) in the School building, I think it is important to use the building as a part of our installation and not just place an installation without any context into it. Some of the previous installations have suffered from seemingly being just placed in a random spot with no tie-in to the surroundings. As Ståle described in his lecture today, the buildup to the installation is as important as the installation itself. But maybe I'm redundant.

I believe that active use of school context and the loaction of eventual installations will make better installations that are more engaging to the public. It would also set some boundaries that will help us focus since it's less than 3 weeks left in the project.

Some recurring comments that is mentioned is that it would be cool to make something big, or at least feels big. Since the budget is tiny we need to do some hacks to
make this work. Think hard on how we can make big things in a cheap way.

Here are some tools that cheaply can make things bigger (or appear so):
Baloons - (to fill space and can be projected on)
Fabrics - (to divide space and can be projected on)
Wires, pipes and tubings (add complexity where there is none ;)
Plywood/MDF/Styrofoam
Audio(Speakers)
Light
Wind? (Fans etc)
Smell?

and if anyone have access to more projectors and or other screens it would be great!

two ideas for the installation/exhibition project: Emotions.

One conceptual idea is to, somehow, record the individual mood of all the students, that together generate a new space (physical or mental), which reflect/aims to change the average mood.

Difficult conceive exactly how, but one idea could be to project colors onto specific surfaces on the school building. High level of stress/frustration could color the surface red, yellow could reflect calmness. The installation would change gradually or rapidly over time, always going to one specific color at night when the school is empty.

Another thought I had, was to give all the students something (like a badge...) that would bind them together, making them the instilation.
